I have been divorced/separated since 1997. In that time I have destroyed a fairly promising career in the military, been a "guest" of the county, deprived of my children, and paid a hefty subsidy to my former spouse and her new "man'". My crime is my absolute refusal to nod my head like a good boy and quietly accept whatever bone is tossed my way. Along this path from former soldier, former head of security for a fairly large firm in the area and yes former correctional officer I have learned a great deal.

1. Refusal to eagerly agree to every cent taken from you makes you a deadbeat here in Montgomery County in name if not fact.

2. Moms outrageous and life threatening actions (DUI with child and subsequent wreck) are not enough for even an increase in visitation. In fact the children and youth worker will speak glowingly of Moms "support network "all the while ignoring the fact that the network is in place because the family knows full well Mom has a drinking problem.

3. Your professional background is automatic grounds for a PFA .

4. Violation of that PFA which had the kids taken on moms far too much later found to be unfounded accusation is worth a trip to the looney bin and jail.

5. Mom can delay in the courts for years, Dad gets one screw up.

6.Rebuilding your life and career is not really such a good idea , nor is remarrying and stabilizing your life. These are merely good reasons to raise support and disrupt what little visitation there is. After all we can't have the kids see a happy two parent household where the primary form of entertainment does not involve alcohol and TV.

I could go on but in the end I am no different than millions of others with one slight exception I'll not give an inch.
