This is really happening in Pennsylvania. Earlier this year my son was accused of spousal abuse and it was blatantly done to get the upper hand in a custody dispute. (and of course because she claimed abuse HER attorney was provided free of charge) There was NO PROOF, NO EVIDENCE but a PFA (protection from abuse order) was granted. My son is now being forced to attend classes for "men who abuse" and I can honestly state to you that I am amazed at the things that are allowed to happen in connection to them. At his first "class" he was told to sign a statement that he was an abuser. When he refused they stated that he could be kicked out of the class, found in contempt of court and possibly thrown in jail. All of his life he was tought that he should tell the truth, but now he is being told that EITHER he lies and signs these statements, OR he sticks with his moral conviction, and possibly ends up in jail. He has been harrassed and put down by the administrators of this class and finally tonight he was told that he is NOT participating fully in the class and that he NEEDS to admit that he was physically and mentally abusive to his spouse. I really did not think that things like this could actually happen in the United States, and I am watching as weekly they rip him apart and belittle him, even though NONE of these people have ever done ANY listening or investigation OR has even once tried to look at even the possibility that maybe he is innocent. I would LOVE to send you copies of the papers that they are trying to force him to sign. My God, this is definitely NOT fair and absolutely should NOT be legal or allowed. I just wish that there was some kind of recourse that we could take, as each week he is getting steadily more depressed and has lost faith NOT ONLY in our legal system but also in ever having an equal part in his daughters life as the vindictiveness of his spouse gets worse and worse. The only victims in this story were Bob and his daughter Christina. I can actually understand why some fathers have chosen to commit suicide rather than continue to deal with situations such as this. I can only hope that this doesn't drive my son to choose that path, because that truly would be the crime of our legal systen and the department of human services.
