I've been reading the horror stories regarding the Domestic Relations division in our State. After reading each horrifying account, I came away asking myself if there was no higher authority which could hold them accountable and force them to base decisions upon the laws of the State? Is there anyone who can explain why this department has such autonomy that a decision based upon a mere flip of the coin is legal and binding rather than through application of law? Worse still, I'd like to know by what authority does the court have to uphold any legal decision that is made in direct opposition to the law. It's not enough that we complain with words, we need to take action to force these departments to operate within the laws of the State. Considering the magnitude of abuse at the hand of a department gone out of control, I no longer wonder why domestic violence is on the rise.

If the very departments that were created to protect the citizens can freely operate without regard to law, by what authority is any citizen compelled to obey them? Why should any citizen of this State be forced to abide by its laws if they, themselves, don't? History shows that corruption at the top produces anarchy at the bottom. The law is either the law for everyone, or it applies to no one.

If you are fed up with a system gone out of control, get vocal with your elected representatives. Forget party affiliation and go to the polls and elect representatives who will support change. Any representative who is not outraged by endless tragedy's coming out of our courts, or are not willing to sponsor legislation taking away [it's] power need to be voted out of office. The only power you have is at the polls. The Bible tells us that a man cannot serve two masters. He will either the love one and hate the other, or hate the one and love the other. The same goes for our elected officials. Either they will hate what is going on and make changes, or ignore the rights of citizens and let things continue as they have been.

After 20 years of a very miserable marriage, I, too, have become an unsuspecting victim of domestic relations. In my situation there were no children, however my wife falsified her income and even with absolute proof that she had done so, domestic relations and the Court of Common Pleas completely ignored the laws and guidelines when determining spousal support and refused to take her income (about three times what I make) into consideration. She continues to get 40% of my earnings despite the hundreds of thousands of dollars she has in cash and assets. In addition, she will end up with all of our marital property, my personal property and I'll end up with the debt. Had I known this is Pennsylvania's idea of fair and impartial treatment, I would have established a residency out of this state and then filed for divorce.

To everyone in Pennsylvania who thinks they are not a potential victim, you live with a false sense of security. It is very frightening to think that our courts have strayed from a forum for justice and fairness and have become the goons, the enforcers of an illegal operation. At a time when the eyes of our nation are focused on international terrorism, we must not forget nor ignore State sponsored terrorism more commonly known as the division of domestic relations.
